How to Store Cake Mix Donuts

When you make these cake mix donuts, you will want to make sure to store them properly. You want to make sure that the donuts are protected from the air. When it is exposed to the air, it will go stale faster.

These donuts should be stored in an airtight container. The donuts will last for about 3 days before it starts to spoil and go bad. You can also freeze these donuts to help make them last longer.

Whenever I make donuts like these I like to make extras to freeze the baked donuts. This makes it easy to have apple donuts on hand whenever I want them. To freeze the donuts, after baking let the donuts cool completely.

Since these donuts are covered with a chocolate frosting, you will want to wait until the frosting has set, or freeze the donuts before wrapping them. Once the donuts are frozen, wrap the donuts in wax paper before moving the apple donuts to a freezer bag or airtight container.

How to make cake mix donuts

Simply whisk all ingredients together in a stand mixer, using the water to adjust for desired consistency.
Cover and set to the side.

Donut directions:

Preheat oven to 350°.

Spray a donut pan with non-stick baking spray.

In a large bowl, add cake mix, apple sauce, pie spice, and cinnamon, mix to combine.

Pour the batter into the donut pan.

Repeat until all are coated and garnished.

Ingredients

  • 1 box of spice cake mix

  • 1 1/2 cup applesauce

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp pie spice

  • 1 cup chocolate chips for the batter

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips for garnish

Donut icing Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 - 3 tbsp water

  • 1/4 c + 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
