Does anyone know the difference in the factory Honda candytone pb-1c and the pb-3c? They both say candytone blue on the can and the color dot on the top of the can look identical..I matched an original ct70 blue shock top to an original k-1 z50 frame and the z50 frame is definitely a darker blue..i do know that every coat you apply it will get darker….I painted a ct in the past with the pb-3c and to me it looked like the right color shade…now I have 5 cans of the pb-1c I was planning on using on my 69 ct70 and am second guessing if it’s going to be the right shade? Thanks in advance for any help. I’m hopeing Honda just changed the code but that’s just wishful thinking..lol

I should have gone to my spare bedroom to look at my cans! Got lazy. The ''under coat white'' paint, sports no part number.
I would do a one pass spray out of the two blues and deicide. I like the vintage Jap look of the other side of the can. I keep them in a display case.

Robert found this - Also keep in mind that Candy Sapphire Blue is comprised of a silver base coat, the blue tint coats, and a clear coat. Now, from my cans of Honda brand paint, Candy Sapphire Blue uses Candytone-Blue tint coat. Part number 08701-99906. The paint code is PB-3C. This is maybe a 3 or 4 ounce can. To further confuse/complicate this blue issue, there are other shades of Candytone-Blue that have a different paint code but are labeled as Candytone-Blue also and have paint codes such as PB-1C.
Reading that it makes me wonder if the 3c is the Sapphire blue where as the 1c is the candy blue? I know the original brochures do make the distinction of the colors. My '74 TL 125 is Sapphire blue, which looks darker to me anyway, than my 69 CT. The Sapphire is a candy though painted the same way with a silver underneath like it says. I have a brand new still in it's box tank for the TL so I know it's color has not changed

The PB-3C candytone blue I have is a much closer match to the Z50 candy blue than the CT70 sapphire blue, I'm just speaking as unaltered out of the can.

Yes unaltered out of the can it is a dark blue but it lightens up when you thin it down an spray it in light coats over the silver base,,,, the blue ct in my avatar is the bike I painted with pc-3c and to me it’s pretty close to the stock color.. I’m STARTING to think the pb-1c is the z50 color code ? but I’m still just guessing..I may have to do a spray out to see how dark this pb-1c really is. I don’t want to waist any of it so I’m still going to dig for more info before I do.. I thought for sure someone on here would know but sooner or later I’ll unlock the mystery on the pb-1c color….I do feel the pb-3c is the correct paint for the ct70 blue being I already sprayed the color but with more coats it might darken to the z50 color so I’m still not 100% sure?

I looked around a bit for info on the 3c vs. 1c paint colors. But I did not find any solid answers. The paint code pages says the 3c is candy sapphire blue. And they show the 1c as dark blue..? Not even Candy Dark Blue..?
Looks like ALL of the ones with a c in the 2nd half of the paint code are candy paints.
K1 Z50 blue...I'm not even sure of the name..? Seems they just call it Candy Blue. K2 Z's are Candy Sapphire Blue.
I'm thinkin 3C is CSB. And 1C is for the K1 Z50 Candy Blue. But that's just MY best guess.

Honda Candy Sapphire Blue Motorcycle Paint
Honda Candy Sapphire Blue (Honda code PB-3C-C) paint to match the original factory color offered on the Honda Z50 and other Honda models such as the CB and CL. *This paint requires Honda Silver Paint base paint for a match. Aerosol cans are ready to spray. Pints and Quarts require reducer and a...

The paint you posted up has the silver built into it already. The vintage Honda paint does not. The painter has to do a ''fine metallic silver base coat'' and know when to stop with the blue. Not sure if that stuff is Lacquer either as lacquer is not eco friendly.

Now I know you can't trust computer monitors nor can you trust printing ink but I just thought I'd throw this out there to make this thread even more muddy- Sapphire blue TL vs Candy blue Z . The blue Z brochure looks crazy dark. But nobody bought a bike purely by the brochure- those brochure's were used to dream so they didn't need to be too accurate to serve the purpose.

Honda called it Candy Blue, Honda code PB1 (dark blue). Honda PB2C is Candy Blue Green, Honda PB3C is Candy Sapphire Blue . That's all the info I would have from the paint code charts that I have. My 1969 Z50 is different color blue than My 1970 model might be the year.
