What is the pretest for pick 3? ›

A pre-test is an unofficial drawing that tests the machine and the ball sets used for a Pick 3 drawing. Pre-tests ensure that the drawing machine is working well and that balls are drawn in a random way. The Texas Lottery performs at least four pre-tests before every Pick 3 drawing.

(1) Pick 3 drawings shall be held four times a day, Monday through Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., 12:27 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 10:12 p.m. Central Time. The executive director may change the drawing schedule, if necessary. (2) At each Pick 3 drawing, three single-digit numbers shall be drawn for the base game.

Pretest questions are newly written or recently revised questions that must be vetted by the candidates before being approved and used for scoring.

If students are not able to pass the pretest, they proceed through the lesson normally. The default passing threshold for a pretest is 80% but can be modified by the user. Unlike prescriptive testing, pretesting can be turned on or off at any point, regardless of whether or not the student has started the course.

Straight/Box Play: Straight/box play prizes are awarded for matching the three (3) numbers drawn in exact and/or any order. If all three (3) numbers played are different (e.g. 123), there are six (6) possible combinations of those numbers. This type of straight/box play is called a “6-way straight/box”.

Combo: Provides an Exact play for all possible combinations of the numbers you selected on a single ticket. Pairs (Front or Back): Pick two numbers and specify Front Pair or Back Pair by checking the appropriate Play Type.

When used at the beginning of the course, pretests give teachers a way to gauge student knowledge, prepare students for future content and, in the end, measure student growth.

It is typically recommended that pretest items do not surpass 10% of the total items on the exam (e.g., a 40 item exam should not contain more than 4 pretest items). Limiting the number of pretest items reduces the possibility of candidate fatigue and typically eliminates the need to extend testing time.
